Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
Not to listen. Anyone can open the app as a guest and play any ayah in Arabic with translation in five languages. Sign in (free, Google or email) when you want AI Tafseer, word analysis, saved vocabulary, practice quizzes, companions or progress tracking.
Which languages are supported?
English (Sahih International), Turkish (Diyanet), French (Hamidullah), German (Abu Rida), and Spanish (Cortés). Each language uses a translation edition that reads naturally when narrated by AI text-to-speech.
Which voices are available?
Five Gemini TTS voices: Puck, Charon, Kore, Fenrir and Zephyr. You can change voice in Settings; it applies to translation TTS and tafseer narration.
Why does the audio play translation first?
We follow a deliberate three-stage learning sequence: Translation → Arabic → Keywords. Hearing meaning first primes you to listen actively to the Arabic that follows, and then the three keywords give you something concrete to take with you. The order is core to the learning experience.
Why doesn't Surah Al-Fatiha or At-Tawbah start with Bismillah?
Per established convention, Iqra AI does not inject "Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem" before the first ayah of Al-Fatiha (which already begins with it) or At-Tawbah (which by tradition does not).
Can I use Iqra AI offline?
Yes - any ayah you've listened to is cached on your device (IndexedDB), so re-playing works without a connection. AI features (Tafseer, word analysis) need internet because they call Gemini.
Will my progress sync across devices?
Yes, when you're signed in. Saved words, points, streaks, badges, companions and onboarding state all sync via Firestore.
Is my data private?
We only collect what's needed to make the app work: your email (for sign-in), saved vocabulary, progress and interaction logs. We don't sell or share data. See our privacy policy.
Can I install Iqra AI as an app?
On supported mobile browsers you'll see a prompt to install it as a Progressive Web App. Native iOS and Android builds are also being developed.
